Effects of corrective feedback frequency in online language learning

You are invited to be in a research study on the frequency of error correction in online language learning. You were selected as a possible participant because you study English online. We ask that you read this form and ask any questions you may have before agreeing to be in the study.

This study is being conducted by James Trotta, a PhD student at Florida State University.

Background Information:

The purpose of this study is to determine how the frequency of error correction impacts language learning.


If you agree to be in this study, we would ask you to do the following things:

You will be part of a study group that discusses various topics related to your native cultures on a message board.

The free online course will last seven weeks. Each week you will have three topics to discuss by asking and answering questions on a message board. For example, if the topic is wedding culture, you will ask questions about wedding culture in other countries and answer questions about wedding culture in your country.

Risks and benefits of being in the Study:

The major risk to participants in this study is that you may feel uncomfortable discussing certain cultural differences. You may withdraw from the discussion at any time.

The benefits to participation in this study are free English practice and free error correction.

There is no payment for participating in this study.


The records of this study will be kept private and confidential to the extent permitted by law. In any sort of report we might publish, we will not include any information that will make it possible to identify a subject. Research records will be stored securely and only researchers will have access to the records.

Voluntary Nature of the Study:

Participation in this study is voluntary. Your decision whether or not to participate will not affect your current or future relations ESLgo.com. If you decide to participate, you are free to not answer any question or withdraw at any time without affecting those relationships.
